Kobus Schoeman takes maiden Duckhook Title at Heron Banks!

The February Sunday #Series1 Event took place at Heron Banks on Sunday the 7th of February.

Continuous rainfall over Gauteng spanning over 10 days keep the Duckhook player highly interested to what conditions they would face come tee off time at Heron Banks on Sunday. Featuring for the first time on the Duckhook Tour many players looked forward to adding another course to their list. The Par 71 layout featuring 14 holes where water comes into play.

The 2021 Season will feature 11 Events at Golf Courses in and around Gauteng including 4 qualifying Majors. 10 out of 11 scores will count towards the final Individual Stableford points Total giving players the leeway to have their lowest score fall away or miss an event.

The Race to the 2021 Series Championship is proudly Sponsored by Srixon. Wayne Jeanson went into Heron Banks leading the Standing on 45 points after an incredible start to the season. Richard Holman and Leon Oosthuizen both occupy 2nd place on 40 points while Prinay Panday and JP Atwood filled 3rd position on 38 points. The Champion Golfer will receive a Year’s supply of Srixon Golf Balls as well as exemption into all the 2022 Majors!

The event came down to the wire, with 4 players all at a stage being in contention to take the win. Kobus Schoeman, now playing in his 4th Season quickly made it clear that he would be a force to be reckoned with. Play from his 24 Handicap Kobus made a steady start making 4 consecutive 2 pointers before making 3 points on the Par 3 – 5th and Par 4 – 6th to move him to -2. A Double Bogey on the Par 4 – 7th was quickly negated with a 4 point Par on the Par 4 – 8th to take his score to -3, accumulating 21 points on the front nine.

Moving onto the second nine which featured most of the water, Kobus stumbled on the Par 5 – 11th making zero points to drop him back to -1.  Two more consecutive Pars came on the Par 4 – 13th and Par 3 – 14th to earn 4 and 3 points respectively to leap him back up the Live Scoring leaderboard to -4. He would go onto make his 3rd 4 pointer of his round on the Par 4 – 16th to add another two shots to his total to move to -6. A Final 3 points on the Par 4 – 18th concluded his excellent round on -7, 43 points setting the club house lead with more than 3 hour wait to see if any other player would eclipse his total.

Finishing just behind Kobus, Hansie Hamman too had a great round at the Vaal course, carding 9 Pars and 1 Birdie off his 16 Handicap. Hansie would reach the Par 4 – 18th needing to make a Birdie to tie Kobus but ultimately would not be enough on the count back.

Randal Chetty threatened to spoil the party reaching the Par 4 – 18th on -6, needing only to make a Par to take the lead via the Stroke 1 count-back, it was not to be with the pressure resulting in him finishing his round on -4 following a Triple Bogey.

It came down to the second last fourball of the day where in Connor Cottam also enjoyed a solid round. Playing off his 13 handicap Connor managed to make 21 points on the front and back nine, but coming down the last stretch of three holes needed 3 points on each to catch Kobus, it was not to be as 2 point on the Par 3 – 17th wasn’t enough handing Kobus Schoeman the Heron Banks Title earning himself 550 Player Ranking Points and an Automatic entry into the 2021 Masters to be played at Pecanwood.

After 2 Round on Series1, Wayne Jeanson continues to lead 113 players taking his points total to 80. Prinay Panday moves up to 2nd place, only 3 points behind while JP Atwood takes 3rd place.
