The 2nd event of the 2021 Duckhook Golfers Durban Series took place on Sunday the 14th of February at Umkomaas Golf Club.

The 2021 Season is made up of 11 Events from January to November, all taking place at a different golf club to test the player’s skills over 11 months. The Series leaderboard will be determined by the most Individual Stableford Points earned over the 11 Events, with the luxury of 10 out of the 11 scores counting towards the final tally. Allowing a player to miss an event or the worst score falling out to still fight for the Title.

This Season, Srixon will be sponsoring the Series, with the Champion walking away with a year’s supply of Srixon Golf Balls!

Umkomaas Golf Club hosted 17 Players on a misty morning at a course where the rain had the competitors worried the tournament could get effected. As Duckhook weather would have it play got underway with everyone teeing off on the 1st Tee.

With the sun came out with no wind in sight scoring became easier on the front nine, taking advantage of the conditions, Kobus Nel, playing in the first four ball, took an early lead with only 1 drop shot on the front nine. Kobus made 8 straight Pars leaving him on -3 at the half-way stage. Playing in the same four ball Jack Lamp started off with a birdie on the first and on the 6th hole keeping him close to the summit of the leaderboard. Playing the 9th hole Jack made a double drop to leave him at Even Par.

Marius Engelbrecht (18) started off slow on the front nine only making 4 points on the first 3 holes. Marius got his momentum going in the right direction with Par and 3 points on the Par 3 – 4th, Par 5 – 6th and Par 4 – 7th to make 19 points on the front nine leaving him at -1. Devlyn Fraser (Umkomaas Greenkeeper) had home advantage on how to play the nine hole to take the closest to the pin 1.5 meters away.

Making the turn the South Coast heat began taking its toll on the players as the players started to battle to make points on the back nine. Shooting low has now become an challenge as players were just trying to scramble for Pars. Marius made a double dropped on the long Par 3 – 13th after pushing his tee shot out of bounce and drop back to +2, giving the field a chance to catch him. Andrew Godfrey took the closest to pin in 2 on the 16th hole where is second shot finished 3 meters away.

Three consecutive 3 point Pars from Marius came on the 15th, 16th and 17th to claw his way to Even Par with only the Par 4 – 18th to play. Coming down the last Marius needs to make net bogey for his first win, after he has seen the online scoreboard he pushed his drive out of bounce to the right. Getting it back in play from almost 250 meters out all he needed to do was get it on the green to make gross double bogey to finish in a tie with Ashwin Ramchand on +2 with 34 points but take the Victory after a penalty imposed on Ashwin.
