Hayden Stone overcomes Challenging conditions at Prince’s Grant to Win Durban Open!

 

The Durban Open, the second Major of the year was held at Prince’s Grant Coastal Golf Estate on Sunday the 8th of August.  

 

The exclusive field was made up of 16 Players who had accumulated the most Individual Stableford points over the 3 month qualifying cycle from May to July.

 

A near perfect morning greeted the players as they were getting ready to take on this Championship Golf Course.

 

Hayden Stone got off to a flying start making 4 pars and 2 birdies on the front nine leading the field on -2. Andrew Godfrey was hot on his heels after the turn on even par 2 strokes back.

 

The second nine turned out to play a lot more difficult than the front as this link style course  with the wind picking up. Still holding onto the lead, the nerves started to set in as Hayden made 2 triple Bogeys dropping him back to +5  and only needed to make bogey on the last to stay in the lead which he did to set the early clubhouse lead.

 

Anthony Parmasur played the back nine conservatively and coming up to the 18th hole was tied for the lead. Pulling his first tee shot in to the water on the left and needing to take a drop just past the ladies tee made the hole a bit more difficult in the wind. He only needed to make 6 to tie for the lead but came up short as he dropped 4 shots on the 18th.

 

Hayden Stone’s wait was over as he was crowned the Durban Series Open Champion.

 

The next qualifying rounds start this Sunday at Cotswold Downs for the Final major to be held in November 2021. Qualifying is from August to November.
