The penultimate #Series2 event of the 2020 Season took place in the East of Gauteng at the Majestic Ebotse Links on Sunday the 25th of October.
Heading in to the penultimate Event of the Season Randal Chetty extends his lead at the Top of the Standings after securing Victory in September at Houghton. Going into the Ebotse round Randal tees it up with a 8 point lead on 217 points followed by Alan Louw on 209 points and 3rd Place Lukie Jansen on 208 points.
With much excitement a field of 77 players looked forward to talking on the challenge of the inland Links. With all the players starting on the 1st Tee the Tournament started at 09:00. The course played easier than normal, at one stage the Top 30 players found themselves under Par.
The day belonged to season regular Charl Ferreira who carded his career best round of 87 off his 26 handicap to shoot an incredible -9 (45 points). Charl’s front nine consisted of 2 Pars and 8 Bogeys, a run of 4 consecutive 3 pointers coming on the Par 4 – 4th, Par 5 – 5th, Par 4 – 6th and Par 5 – 7th followed by a 4 point Par on the Par 4 – 9th to reach the halfway stage on -6, 24 points!
Moving onto the back nine, Charl picked up where he left off starting with 3 points on the Par 3 – 12th and then the Par 4 – 14th before making a Birdie on the Par 3 – 15th to take his score to -9 with 5 holes to play. He would finish his round on -9 to take a 2 shot victory to earn his first League Title and 550 player ranking points.
Ewald van Wyk and Prinay Panday also card exceptional rounds finishing on -7 (43 points) to tie for 2nd place. Ewald playing off a 9 carded a career best of 72, making Birdie on the Par Par 5 – 7th to go with his 13 Pars and 2 Bogeys.
Prinay Panday (16) came back into form to 79 and breaking the 80 barrier, Prinay’s scorecard consisting of 11 Pars, 6 Bogeys and a Bogey.
It all comes down to the Final #Series2 Event of the Season at Germiston Golf Club which see Randal Chetty will lead the way on 251 points, now 7 shots clear of Lukie Jansen on 244 points. Alan Louw drops a position to 3rd on 236 points while Ewald van Wyk and Jason Ivins sit in a tie for 4th on 234 points.
The League format is Individual Stableford, the player with the most points at the end of the season will win a Weekend Away at Nkonyeni Golf Estate!

The Tour also features 4 qualifying Majors which will see the Top 12 Ranked players from the 3 Gauteng Leagues qualify for the 32 to 40 player Medal Tournament.
South Downs will be the Final qualifying round for the 2nd Major of the Season, The Duckhook Masters to be played on Friday the 4th of September at Country Club Johannesburg’s Rocklands course.
