The 3rd event of the 2022 Duckhook Golfers Durban Series took place on Sunday the 13th of March at Umkomaas Golf Club.

The 2022 Season is made up of 11 Events from January to November, all taking place at a different golf club to test the player’s skills over 11 months. The Series leaderboard will be determined by the most Individual Stableford Points earned over the 11 Events, with the luxury of 10 out of the 11 scores counting towards the final tally. Allowing a player to miss an event or the worst score falling out to still fight for the Title.

A warm and windy day greeted 24 players at Umkomaas at an eagerly anticipated 3 Tournament of the Season. A course that is not overly long, but offers a great challenge for low handicappers, especially when the coastal winds blow in addition to its well placed bunkers and undulating fairways. Course management the key to shooting a competitive score.

Kobus Nel set the early pace taking his score to -2 after 2 holes but a zero pointer on the Par 4 – Stroke 1 saw him move back to Even Par. A string of 5 Par followed enabled him to complete his front nine on -1 (19 points) to hold the lead going into the back nine. A steady 18 points from Anthony Parmasur including a Birdie on the Par 5 – 6th hole saw him positioned within striking distance of Kobus going into the final 9 holes. Robbie Rykenberg and Lushan Esterhuizen a further shot back both carding 17 points.

Players enjoying a welcomed halfway break to get out of the hot south coast sun. The second half of the tournament saw the wind start picking up making the course playing a bit longer and difficult. Anthony Parmasur made good progress on the field making a further 16 points to set  the clubhouse lead on +2 (34 Points). Robbie then took the lead on +1 reaching the long Par 3- 17th needing to negotiate a strong cross wind which unfortunately got the better of him carding a double bogey to relinquish his lead to finish on +3 (33 points)

Kobus playing in the last four ball off the day had all to play on the last hole. A tee shot which only reached the fairway made the hole very long to get up and down to win the day. Once at the green it all came down to sinking a 15 foot putt to take the victory on a count back, (the player with the most points on the front nine). Handling the pressure like a seasoned competitor Kobus sunk the putt to take his 2nd Duckhook Title in 3 events in 2o22

Umkomaas was the the 3rd of 4 Qualifying rounds for the Masters to be played on Sunday 8th May.
