Russel Heine starts 2021 Durban Series with Victory at Selborne!

The start of the 2021 Duckhook Golfers Durban Series took place on Sunday the 10th of January at Selborne Golf Club.

An overcast Sunday morning welcomed 16 eager Players ready to get their Season started after a 5 week hiatus from competitive Social Golf.

The 2021 Season is made up of 11 Events from January to November, all taking place at a different golf club to test the player’s skills over 792 holes. The Series leaderboard will be determined by the most Individual Stableford Points earned over the 11 Events, with the luxury of 10 out of the 11 scores counting towards the final tally. Allowing a player to miss an event or the worst score falling out to still fight for the Title.

This Season, Srixon will be sponsoring the Series, with the Champion walking away with a year’s supply of Srixon Golf Balls!

The Tournament opened with a short dog-leg to the left, Par 5, where 9 out of the 16 players made par or better to get their Season started.

Andrew Godfrey took the early lead making 1 Birdie and 5 Pars on his front nine to reach the halfway stage on -1, 19 points. Jack Lamp also got his round off to a good start to share the lead with Andrew, moving onto the back nine.

The back nine was a completely different story as the wind started to pick up and blow across the Par 72 layout.

Russel Heine, playing off his 7 handicap began moving up the leaderboard, starting with a Birdie on the long Par 5- 10th and continuing his march up the standings, making 2 more Birdies on the 14th and the 18th holes, returning to the clubhouse with a gross score of 36 and 21 points, to set the clubhouse lead on -2, 38 points.

Jack Lamp played solid golf on the back nine carding 4 Pars to reach the Par 4 – 18th in a share of the lead with Russel. The Equations came down to Jack needing to make a Birdie on the final hole to overcome Russel’s final Birdie to move ahead on the Live Scoring leaderboard. Unfortunately, Jack would walk off with a Bogey and dropped a shot to give Russel the outright win on the day, on -2 (38 Points).

Congratulations to Russel for earning his 1st Duckhook Victory, 400 Ranking points, 400 Credits and his automatic entry into the Durban Masters.
