2020 Sunday League #Series1 – August – Silverlakes

The tour returns to the Pretoria suburbs for the August Sunday League #Series1 event at Silverlakes Golf Estate on Sunday the 2nd of August.

With only 4 rounds remaining to determine the #Series1 Champion, Silver Lakes Country Club provided the perfect challenge for the players to test their skills at a course which features an abundance of water, with 11 of the holes bringing water into play. 

84 Players teed it up from the 1st Tee and made their way around the 18 hole layout to accumulate as many Individual Stable points as possible in the hope to top the live scoring come the end of the day. The Tournament unfold into an exciting finish as 3 players held the club house lead as they come in to post scores. Frikkie Barnard was first into the club house carding a -2, 38 points, another solid round following his win at Germiston the previous month. A few fourballs later Simon Meyer reached the 18th with the opportunity to make a birdie to pass the lead and go to -4. He would finish with a Par and 3 points to set the new lead at -3, 39 points.

Kevin Ho was next to set the new club house lead, reaching the Par 5 – 18th Kevin set up a Birdie putt to move to -5 but coming up short to post his total of -4, 40 points. There was only on player left on the field who could take the score up another notch to -5 and that was 2019 Sunday League Champion Dhana Perumal. Standing 180 meters out Dhana contemplated his options as he needed a Birdie to win the tournament, he eventually decided to take on the green and managed to reach the green to set up an Eagle Putt and 2 for the Victory. Under pressure Dhana steadied himself over his putt and hit the ball within inches from the hole for a tap in Birdie to earn 4 points and move to -5, 41 points and take the Title and 550 player Ranking point!

#Series1 Tour Calendar now features 8 League events with 7 out of 8 scores counting, and each event being played at a different golf course in and around Gauteng. The League format is Individual Stableford, the player with the most points at the end of the season will win a Weekend Away at Nkonyeni Golf Estate!

The Tour also features 4 qualifying Majors which will see the Top 12 Ranked players from the 3 Gauteng Leagues qualify for the 32 to 40 player Medal Tournament.

Silverlakes is the 2nd round of 3 Qualifying round for the 3rd Majors of the Season, The Duckhook Players Championship taking place on Friday the 2nd of October at Country Club Johannesburgs Rocklands Course.
